Whitley WI

Founded in 1938, Whitley WI has around 84 members. Meetings are normally held on the first Thursday of the month at the Whitley Village Hall, School Lane, starting at 7.30 pm. Visitors and new members welcome.

Activities

Whitley WI is a large and lively group of women. We have a busy programme of meetings and events which are designed to attract and involve the varying ages and interests of all our members. Our range of activities includes: Book Club, Bowls Team, Craft Workshops, Darts Team, Day Trips, Golf Team, Museum Trips, Quiz Team, Theatre Trips, Walking Group.

Projects

Bee a friend to the bees
We are working with to create a package for every household in Whitley Village which will contain the seeds of plants good for bees plus instructions on how to plant them. We also plan to include honey recipes, details of local suppliers, and some information on the campaign. Delivery is planned for next February, and we recently held a very succesful afternoon High tea event which raised enough to pay for the project

Seed to Saucepan
Whitley WI has been running a project in conjunction with Whitley Village School called Seed To Saucepan. The scheme follows the theme of links between things. Between the seeds and the growth of flowers, fruits and vegetables, between the produce and the table, between flowers and decorative items and between the WI and the children. The second prong of the project has been WI cookery lessons at the school for small groups of children with simple recipes for scones, pies potato cakes etc that are carried home in triumph at the end of the afternoon.
