Activities

The trip to see White Christmas at the Lowry was unfortunately cancelled - due to snow!!! Member Marj is currently arguing the case with the Lowry for a refund or better compensation offer as we couldn't get there through no fault of our own. Other theatre trips will come up during the year. - Postcript - Marj managed to get a 40% discount on our next tickets - so get looking at the programme and see what interests you.

Projects

Cheshire Show
Well after a few meetings we decided to choose the year 1969 for Class 2 - 'A Year to Remember'. Our combined exhibit showed the Investiture of the Prince of Wales (Welsh cakes); death of Judy Garland (rainbow silk painted scarf); first flight of Concorde (photo); Man on the Moon (floral art rocket). We were very pleased with our efforts - the judges for indivudal items were but not the overall - they said our table was too busy and in retrospect we sort of agreed! Indivually we entered a watercolour painting, two pieces of floral art and two photos - one of which came FIRST. All of us are thrilled for Betty Meeson (see photo above) - actually, those of us on the photo are slightly embarrassed as this will now appear in the local press and we may get recognised. It was a lot of fun doing the photo (I have to say that, I'm on it) - seriously though, from just 17 members at present I think we did a good job at Cheshire Show. We go by the mantra 'if no one entered anything, there'd be nothing to look at'.

Spending the bursary!
We spent some of the bursary money on a bowls try morning. A group of us spent a bright and dry Saturday morning getting to grips with finger peg and thumb peg. We had a lot of fun although there were a few aching thigh muscles in the days to come! Some of us were so interested that we may do it again - watch out, we may form a team (can't be worse than our quiz team!!!).
