Activities

We aim to enjoy ourselves and apart from welcoming a wide range of speakers to our meetings, we also have a Darts and Bowls Team who enter Group and County competitions and who have lots of fun and usually do very well! Our Quiz Team carries the flag nobly in the County Quiz and we also enjoy days out and meals at local hostelries. Over the past couple of years we have once again, been entering the W.I. classes at the Cheshire Show and this not only challenges our skills in both cookery and craft, but also our organisational skills. Our meetings take place in a relaxed atmosphere and we welcome guests warmly.C

Projects

A Comfortable Venue for Community Events
Ashton Hayes WI's ongoing "project" is maintaining and running our WI Hall - not only for our own use - but for the use of many of the community's organisations. We have been doing this since 1923, when the Hall was first built and we strive to ensure that it provides a warm and comfortable venue for all who use it. Thanks to President Liz Heidenreich's hard work, we've now got some spanking new curtains. Thanks Liz! For more details about our Hall, or to book your event there, please contact Liz Heidenreich on 01829 752233.

Ashton Hayes - Going Carbon Neutral
Ashton Hayes W.I. supports the Going Carbon Neutral Project, which has put Ashton Hayes on the national and local media map and which continues to aim to make the village the first carbon neutral village in the UK.

Lady Denman Cup Competition
Ashton Hayes member, Liz Weston, has been honoured by having her short story chosen by the Cheshire Federation to be put forward to the final of the Lady Denman Cup Competition. The result will be announced later on in the year. Finger's crossed!! UPDATE ........... She didn't win, but got a good critique from the judges. Better luck next year.

Cheshire Show 2011
Our Cheshire Show entry was in the Combined Co-operative Class "From the Bookshelf" and we chose "Winnie the Pooh and Some Bees" as the book we would depict in our display. You can see it in the bottom picture. We didn't get placed, but doesn't it looks smashing? Once again, it's the taking part that counts. Many thanks to all who helped in any way with this year's entry.

Denman College
Ashton Hayes member, Pauline Tilley, has been honoured by being awarded one of the Rural Women of the Year Awards for her service to the community. Pauline is Chairman of Ashton Hayes Parish Council and is a member of the Muir Group Housing Association . She has also served as a Chester City Councillor and has always been an active member of many village organisations. She enjoys flower arranging and is a very hands-on Grandma to her three grandchildren. Well done Pauline - you deserve it!
