Cheshire Federation of Women's Institutes

Celebrating 90 Years

Not only is Cheshire Federation celebrating its 90th birthday, but so are some of our members. Here are two who have already had their birthdays, and both are currently Presidents of their WIs.

Above, we have Win Beckett of Upton Cross WI, who celebrated her birthday on the 22nd January, she has been associated with WI for 50 years. At the formation meeting Win was called upon to give an account of Queen Elizabeth's coronation, for which she had been fortunate enough to secure seated accommodation to watch the pageantry. Her belief has always been that you only get out of something what you put into it, and for that reason she has always enjoyed her share of positions held within the WI. She "Looks forward to further years as a member of this wonderful organisation".

Below is Dorothy Davies of Tilstone Fearnall WI, who celebrated her birthday on 30th January. Her first WI was Broxton and Bickerton, which she joined at the age of 15, and she remembers being part of a drama group which put on a play at the old Royalty Theatre in Chester. During the war years she was involved in jam making in the kitchens of Broxton Old Hall. She "Thanks the WI for all the many friends I have made over the years".
